About

Theresa Dyer has always had a strong interest in figurative drawing. Experimenting with sculpture, she found a medium that could combine her love of form and structure in the realistic representation of the human body. She works in terracotta and plasticine clay that finds its permanent life in bronze.  She is both a sculptor and licensed commercial architect creating large outdoor pieces that work in harmony to their environment.

“The infinite nuances that the human form can convey without a word is how I can tell a story that needs to be expressed. For me, clay is the most immediate and exact way for expression.”

Ms. Dyer started her career as a designer and architect. She has a BFA in design from University of North Texas and a BFA in Architecture from the University of Tennessee, culminating at the University of Manchester, England and is licensed in several states. Today she works mainly on large outdoor commissions.

When I start to create a piece, it is usually an idea that pushes me to comment on what I have experienced or seen someone else go through. After the piece is finished, I am hoping that the work will speak to the viewer and also hope it will be anything but stagnant. Trying to understand ideas that exist below the surface and expressing them in form are important to me.
